After a decade of being on the air, I am putting my weekly radio show, Halifax Is Burning, to rest.

It is not a decision I have made lightly.

When I first walked through the doors at CKDU, I wanted to host a show focused on local music. My aim was to create space on the airwaves – our airwaves – for independent bands and emerging artists. I wanted to produce a program that emphasized how lucky we are to be in a place where amazing music is constantly in our midst.

Hosting Halifax Is Burning gave me the opportunity to do these things. It allowed me to shine a light on music I honestly think is amongst the best in the whole world. Week after week, it brought new, exciting bands into my life. And, perhaps most importantly, the show kept me connected and grounded to the Halifax music scene.

For all of this, I am eternally grateful.

But now, it’s time to move on.

I will be taking some much-needed time to focus on a few new personal and professional projects.

My final live broadcast will be on Tuesday, October 01.

Following that, on Friday, November 22, I am throwing a huge goodbye party at The Seahorse Tavern featuring a reunion of this show’s namesake Myles Deck & The Fuzz! All the proceeds will be donated to CKDU 88.1FM and trust me – you won’t want to miss it.

Though the weekly show is ending, the Halifax Is Burning brand lives on. Whether through Best Of compilations, long-form podcast interviews, or radio specials, I hope to keep my work in radio alive in the years to come. I promise you haven’t heard the last of me.

Please know that I remain deeply committed to championing local music, and I will do that whenever I can. And I truly believe that campus and community radio is a vital part of our cities, our towns, and our villages. Support these stations at all costs!

Halifax Is Burning has been a tremendously meaningful part of my life for the last decade. If it has reached you in some way – any way – thank you for sharing these moments with me; on your radios, on your headphones, on your computers, and on your telephones.
